Denver's Bluepoint Bakery, a small business specializing in handmade breads and pastries, took advantage of Phase I of the FREE+ program in 2004. As a result, Bluepoint was able to combine StEPP funding with rebate dollars from Xcel Energy's Custom Efficiency Program to implement a recommended lighting upgrade in its production area. While increased efficiency from the upgrade is the goal, oftentimes the greatest benefit is increased worker comfort and productivity. This was certainly the case at Bluepoint.
"The improved lighting quality in our facility is tremendous. It has made a huge difference in our working environment. And with the financial assistance offered by the program, all of our internal funds for this project were recouped through utility cost savings in the first year," said Rob Lederman, Director of Operations at Bluepoint Bakery.
